Project Description
REEVALUATE addresses the challenges faced by the Cultural Heritage (CH) sector in digitising collections held by Galleries, Libraries, Museums and Archives (GLAMs), by creating a modular framework for safe, open, collaborative and inclusive digitisation and management of cultural heritage artefacts.
The framework covers every stage of a digitised artefact’s lifecycle — including prioritisation, contextualisation, storage, collaboration, and reuse — through innovative tools designed to be freely available for integration into the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH). Key features include AI-assisted contextualisation, public sensing for inclusive prioritisation, secure artefact storage, and CH tokenisation with smart contracts for intellectual property management. Standardised semantic metadata underpins the entire framework, enhancing accessibility, preventing misuse, and supporting automated discovery.
REEVALUATE validates its results across three real-life use cases, demonstrating the framework’s ability to manage digitisation challenges and support creative reuse within the Fashion and Gaming industries, the Advertising industry, and the Tourism industry. The project brings together 16 partners from 7 countries, spanning CH institutions, technical developers, legal experts, and industry stakeholders from gaming, fashion, advertising, and tourism sectors.

LINKS Foundation participates as a research and technology partner, contributing expertise in AI, semantic technologies, and knowledge representation applied to cultural heritage digitisation and metadata management.
Semantic Knowledge Graph for Cultural Heritage
Design and development of a semantic knowledge graph used to store and organise digitised artefact information, enabling:
- structured, interoperable representation of CH artefact metadata across institutions
- standardised semantic data models aligned with European CH data standards and ECCCH requirements
- enhanced discoverability, linked data connectivity, and support for automated querying across heterogeneous CH collections
AI-Powered Image-Based Metadata Suggestion
Development of an image-based metadata suggestion tool supporting the contextualisation phase of the digitisation lifecycle, enabling:
- automatic extraction and suggestion of descriptive metadata from digitised artefact images using computer vision and machine learning
- reduction of manual cataloguing effort for CH institutions with large or under-described collections

Development of a semantic knowledge graph architecture for storing and interlinking digitised artefact information, using standardised ontologies and linked data principles to enable cross-institutional discoverability and interoperability within the ECCCH.
🤖 AI & Computer Vision for Metadata Suggestion
Machine learning and computer vision techniques applied to digitised artefact images, enabling automated extraction and suggestion of descriptive metadata to support curators during the contextualisation phase and reduce manual cataloguing effort.
📋 Standardised Semantic Metadata
Application of standardised metadata schemas and semantic vocabularies to harmonise CH artefact descriptions across partner institutions, facilitating automated discovery, legal compliance, and prevention of inappropriate use.
