DATAWiSE
Intelligent and sustainable building management powered by cross-sectoral lifecycle data
Project Description
DATAWiSE will develop and test building and building portfolio management tools, leveraging cross-sectoral lifecycle data on the basis of an open, secure, interoperable, and scalable framework.
Utilising cutting-edge artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, the methodology integrates data from a variety of sources to provide a holistic understanding of building operations. The project designs and implements a scalable data architecture that ensures data quality, privacy, interoperability and sharing, alongside a Data Sharing Platform that prioritises data sovereignty to secure data handling and preserve ownership control.
DATAWiSE develops two core toolkits:
- DBPM — Data-driven Building Performance Management toolkit, harnessing Building Information Modelling (BIM) data with advanced data mining techniques through a digital twin
- LD2S — AI-enhanced Lifecycle Data-driven Decision Support toolkit, providing versatile decision-making support across planning, renovation, and sustainability domains
LINKS Foundation Activities
LINKS Foundation is a key partner contributing to the following areas:
Data-Sharing Platform
Development of a robust data-sharing platgorm to facilitate the enhancement of energy and environmental performance in buildings through improved management systems and increased accessibility to lifecycle data.
The plaform is designed accoarding to the International Data Spaces (IDSA) reference architecture, that incorporates components for seamless interoperability, scalability and efficient data exchange.
Smart Sustainability & Comfort Balancing for Building Occupants
Development of a system to balance occupant comfort with energy and sustainability performance, leveraging Reinforcement Learning techniques.
The tool leverages a in-house physical simulation model, which implements a high-fidelity representation of building thermal dynamics governed by the heat diffusion equation. This create the proper environment to apply Reinforcement Learning methodologies: by simulating the building thermal conditions, agents can learn how to manage HVACs to maintain a good trade-off between occupants’ comfort and energy consumption.
The developed tool is one of the services offered by the DBPM toolkit.
